Evaluation Question 4

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Research

The Google search engine was used countless times as it is an easy way to search for and access information.

We were able to search for information about media theories, to help our understanding of how our products could be received and also gain knowledge of our chosen genre.

YouTube gave use easy access to existing music videos, which allowed us to see what's already been done, what works and what doesn't, so we could build our own ideas from there.

Planning

Blogger was a huge help in the planning stage as all the information we'd collected from research and all our ideas on how we were going about creating our products could be keep here in a clear and organised way.

Photoshop let us edit images and create ideas and drafts for our ancillary task products.

iMovie was a quick and easy way for us to edit together an animatic storyboard, which gave us an idea of how our shots would look together and how it would all fit with our chosen song. It was also a way to get practice for our actual product, as we used it to create a lip syncing test video (below), to get us used to matching up audio and video properly before we attempted to use Final Cut.

Construction

We used the SONY  Cyber- Shot DSC HX200V for recording most of our footage. This camera is of very high quality, so our product would look professional.

We also used a Sony NEXC3 camera when shooting, to get high quality shots from two cameras, which enables us to get many different angles and types of shot, during a single take, which was efficient when working to a time limit.

We used tripods with the cameras, to make sure we had professional steady shots. We also attempted some shots using a tripod dolly, to get a wide variety of footage we could then have a look through when it came to editing

We used studio lighting when filming the band during their performance shots. This gave a very professional look to our performance set up and made those shots look a lot better than if we were to use any natural lighting we had at the time.

An Apple iMac computer was used to do our editing on. This is the same equipment used in real media production, so it made our product more professional.

For editing our music video, we used Final Cut Express. This program has a wide range of capabilities and is also used to make real media products. Being able to use this shows that we have improved from when we made our AS task using iMovie.

Again, Photoshop is a professional program, used to create real media products, so it was a good way to do professional quality image editing in order to create out magazine poster and our digipack.

 Evaluation

Blogger enabled me to keep all my progress through the previous three stages in a clear order, so when I came to making my evaluation I could easily access all that I need to.

iMovie was a quick and easy way of me editing together a video for my director's commentary, which I could then use to present my evaluation in a clear and interesting way.

I used a Blue Snowball microphone to get a high quality sound for my directors commentary voice over.

I used Prezi to answer one of my evaluation questions as this was another different way to present my ideas and make it interesting.
